For our degree show, our images are exhibited in a gallery environment held at the University. Alongside the images we choose to hang, there will be an Artist Statement giving an insight into our project for extra information that viewers can read to further engage with each project.
Natasjja Barker, a Fine Art post-graduate came in to give us some tips on how to write an artist statement.
The three main pieces of advice I took from that workshop was:
· Don’t say the work creates a feeling, this is telling how people should feel about the work.
· Leave room for a bit of interpretation.
· Explain what the work is inspired by.
She also gave examples of artist statements that may relate to our work to help us write our own. This was helpful to look at as you can gage the different ways a statement can be written from different perspectives of art.
From this workshop I was able to spend time writing an artist statement about my own work and getting it reviewed by someone that has had lots of experience in also writing them.
